Magnetic poles: permanent and induced magnets

Video coming soon

The key ideas and the summary sheet for this lesson are ready now.

Key ideas

  1. Like poles repel and unlike poles attract; the magnetic force is a non-contact force.

  2. Iron, steel, cobalt and nickel are magnetic materials.

  3. A permanent magnet makes its own magnetic field; an induced magnet becomes a magnet only when it is in a magnetic field.

  4. Induced magnetism always causes attraction, and it is lost quickly when the magnet is taken away.
